About the Map

The Baron Critical Weather Institute utilizes two initiatives to achieve its goal of a High Density, Real-time Weather Network.

  1. Integrating existing weather instrumentation units and webcams
  2. Incorporating data from Baron Institute Weather Instrumentation Systems

For the integration of currently existing weather instrumentation and webcam data, the Institute is deeply grateful for the essential assistance provided by the organizations and agencies identified in the “Sources” section of the WeatherNet/Map Navigation page.

For the Baron Institute Weather Instrumentation Systems, the Institute is deeply grateful for the essential strategic partnership with numerous organizations to greatly enhance the WeatherNet:

  • Alabama Emergency Management Agency (EMA) —The Baron Institute has established an excellent partnership with Alabama’s county EMA offices. Several County EMA offices have installed instrumentation unit/camera systems, and we are in discussions with numerous other County EMAs to further enhance WeatherNet.

  • Alabama Power Company — The Baron Institute is also deeply appreciative of the partnership established with Alabama Power. Over 35 units have been purchased and installed in populated areas of Central and South Alabama by Alabama Power, greatly enhancing our coverage of the state.

  • Huntsville Utilities — A major partner of the Baron Institute, Huntsville Utilities has installed over a dozen sensor/cams across Madison County, including 10-second updating sensors and streaming/time-lapse cameras. This makes Madison County our first high-density county in Alabama. n County our first high-density county in Alabama.

  • WeatherFlow, Inc. is a leader in the private weather sector, with over thirty years of experience in applying the latest observational, modeling, and forecasting technologies to tackle its clients’ most challenging problems. The Baron Institute and WeatherFlow have formed an agreement that allows the Institute to utilize WeatherFlow’s Tempest sensor pack, a solid-state instrumentation unit that offers a wide array of weather data.
